Frequently Asked Questions
Q. How does this work?
A. If your schedule can accommodate it, we highly recommend new members take classes for five (5) consecutive days. This approach will help our instructors form a bond with your child and accelerate their mastery of the skills.
Q. Where are you located?
A. Annette's Swim School is a mobile service which means WE COME TO YOU! Our school is focused on water safety and being able to see your pool allows us to make important safety recommendations for any issues we discover. If you don't have your own pool or a community pool available, call us and we will assist you in finding a great place to take our lessons. We serve Boca Raton & surrounding areas.
Q. What do I need to get started?
A. The first step in getting your child ready for swimming lessons is a trip to your doctor. It is important to get the "all clear" from your doctor before starting any sporting activity, including swimming. If your child has had multiple ear infections or ear tubes inserted, a discussion with your doctor is highly recommended.
Q. What items do I need to bring to the lesson?
A. If your little one is still in diapers, a tight fitting swim diaper is required. It is a good idea to dress the child at the pool as the swim diapers can be a little uncomfortable. This also lowers your probability of the swim diaper becoming soiled. Swim diapers are a special tight fitting diaper designed to keep an accident contained while in the water. A child should never swim in a dirty swim diaper & accidents must be reported. Also, don't forget the sunscreen, a warm towel & a change of clothes. Good fitting goggles are also a popular item.
Q. What do I need to do to get my pool ready?
A. The recommended temperature for a swim lesson is at least 88 degrees for young children. Please set your pool heater to the proper level the day before the lesson. Temperatures below 88 degrees can cause the child to be uncomfortable in the water which distracts from the effectiveness of the lesson. For children ages 5 & up, the temperature can be slightly cooler, but not below 84 degrees. Finally, for the health & safety of your child & our instructors, please make sure your pool is properly maintained with regular maintenance & water checks done by a professional. And temperature outside 72 degrees or warmer.
